Art in the Age Root Liquor

“Here at Art in the Age, we thought it would be interesting and fun to turn back the clock and recreate a true pre-temperance alcoholic Root Tea. We’ve even made it certified organic, since back then, everything was organic. This is the opposite of corporate culture. It’s a genuine experience rooted in history and our own landscape. It is a truly interesting and contemplative quaff. Certainly like nothing else we have ever tasted before. It is NOT Root Beer flavored vodka or a sickly sweet liqueur.”

123 Organic Anejo Tequila (Tres)

On a morning when three brilliant roosters  greet the dawn with hopeful songs of renewal, mature agave plants at the hacienda are ready to be hand harvested and Organic Blanco tequila awakens from its eighteen months slumber in white oak barrels to be reborn as Anejo (Tres) Tequila. Enjoy Anejo (Tres) tequila as you would any fine, aged spirit by savoring the mastery of its limited production and the mystery of its ancient legend. “96 Points” Tasting Panel

Frog’s Leap Sauvignon Blanc

“Believing that a grapevine should be grown in healthy soil that supports all the nutrient needs of the plant, Frog’s Leap has been farming organically since 1988. We also believe that most of the great and historic wines of the world have been made from non-irrigated grapevines, and to that end Frog’s Leap farms all of its vineyards without irrigation.”

New Gins to Try!

New Gins to Try

Caledonia Spirits Barr Hill Gin

Mad of juniper and raw honey. It’s a refreshing gin that is easy – even for gin novices to wrap their heads around. Every element of the gin is preset, well done, clearly identifiable and as an added bonus well balanced. The nose is subtle and understated. A slight sweet and mild juniper note is evident but quiet. The taste is simple and elegant.  On the palate it begins with a lot of smoothness, when suddenly a bouquet of almost floral sweetness hits you.

Edinburgh gin

A storied history, Edinburgh was an epicenter of distillation in the 1700’s this gin was launched in 2010 and is distilled with the classic gin botanicals (juniper, coriander, citrus peel, angelica and orris root) plus the edition of Scottish juniper, pine, heather and milk thistle. With a nod to the art deco style of the 1920’s the simple bottle design is a classic. On the nose it opens up with aromas of walking though a forest on a crisp fall day.

Gin Mare Artisanal gin

Gin mare has long been the reference point for a gin that’s pushed the boundary of what a gin could taste like.  They start by distilling many botanicals independently such as rosemary, thyme, olive, basil and a citrus blend of Seville oranges and Lleida lemons. Its savory and unusually but balanced; and made in the small Spanish fishing town of Villanova just outside of Barcelona.

Sipsmith London Dry Gin

“ Sipsmith: where old meets new and the 2 hit it off really quite spectacularly” Sipsmith Sam

The quintessential expression of a classic traditional London dry gin. Bold, complex, and aromatic. Botanicals blended are Macedonian juniper berries, Bulgarian coriander seed, French angelica root Spanish liquorice root, Italian orris root, Spanish almonds, Chinese cassia bark, Madagascan cinnamon and Seville oranges.

Dry Line Truro Cape Cod Gin

Named after the juniper producing eastern Red Cedar that is grown here and embodies Yankee ingenuity, from its inventive recipe to the self- taught virtuosity of its distillers. Infused with a selection of Cape Cod Botanicals, including eastern Red Cedar Juniper berries found on the Truro property and angelica root grown by a local farmer, dry line gin is the best of the Cape in a bottle.

Distillery No. 209 Gin, San Francisco

The bouquet is nicely citrus forward with a juniper backstop with a nicely aromatic mix of botanicals. Smooth, citrusy, with the lemon and bergamot providing lighter notes and with the juniper being a bit more restrained. Slightly oily appearance to body (sign of quality) without separating.

Rustic Spirits margarita

The Story….

It all started with a small bucket and a few limes

Hi, I’m Vytas. I arrived to America from my homeland, Lithuania, with nothing, rustic spiritsbut my dreams. My quest to create the perfect margarita started almost a ten years ago, when I would spend countless hours in my basement, tweaking my recipe. All ingredients were handcrafted; I even distilled the tequila and the citrus liqueur. All day, every day was spent working on margaritas, thinking about margaritas, and dreaming about margaritas.

My life’s savings went into my business. I started traveling to the agave fields in Mexico regularly to hand pick the plants from which I would distill my tequila. I built a margarita factory, hammering every nail and designing and installing all of the equipment. There’s a room off the back where I sleep, since I make margaritas all day and all night. Harpoon Big Squeeze – Sweet with a hint of tartness, UFO Big Squeeze Shandy is perfect for all of your summer adventures!

Harpoon Wannamango – This pale ale brewed with mango begins with a subtle tropical aroma of passion fruit and mango. Golden-copper in color, it has a light body, slight hop bitterness, and malty sweetness, and finishes with a kiss of mango.

Foolproof Queen of the Yahd – Queen is a truly unique IPA brewed with real raspberry. We dumped a stupid amount of American hops into this beer, giving the Queen a gorgeous bouquet of tropical fruit that is complemented by a subtle tartness from raspberry purée. This is a refreshing, delicious, and totally crushable IPA.

Ballast Point Watermelon Dorado –Watermelon Dorado Double IPA is not one to back down from big flavors. Mash, kettle, and dry hopping blend to create a huge hop profile that is balanced with a blast of watermelon. The result is a refreshing brew that is all summer and no seeds.

Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin – Some may say there are few ways to improve Sculpin’s unique flavor, but the tart freshness of grapefruit perfectly complements our IPA’s citrusy hop character. Grapefruit’s a winter fruit, but this easy-drinking ale tastes like summer.

Ballast Point Mango Even Keel – Our Mango Even Keel is the ideal beer for easy drinking. This hoppy, session ale gets a flavor boost from mango, which perfectly plays off the citrusy hop bouquet. With fruit, hops, and a low ABV, this beer truly is on another level.

Ballast Point Pineapple Sculpin –Pineapple Sculpin IPA came from one of many small-batch cask experiments to enhance the flavor of our signature IPA. With so many tropical hop notes in Sculpin, how could we not try adding some sweet, juicy pineapple? The combination of fruity flavors and hop intensity definitely packs a punch.

Dogfish Romantic Chemistry – What you have here is a serious India Pale Ale shacking up and hunkering down with mango and apricots. At the same time! Romantic Chemistry is brewed with an intermingling of mangos, apricots and ginger, and then dry-hopped with three varieties of hops to deliver a tropical fruit aroma and a hop-forward finish.

Dogfish Head Fort – An ale brewed with a ridiculous amount of raspberry juice. Fort has a Belgian-style base, then we follow a similar fermentation process to the one we use on beers like 120 Minute IPA and World Wide Stout. Fort is an excellent candidate for cellaring. Grab a few bottles, enjoy one now and lay the others down for a few years.

21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon – Hell or High Watermelon Wheat is our summer seasonal beer available from April through September in six pack cans and on draft. We start by brewing a classic American wheat beer, which undergoes a traditional secondary fermentation using fresh watermelon. A straw-colored, refreshing beer with a kiss of watermelon aroma and flavor.

Epic Lil’ Brainless Raspberries – Lil’ Brainless® Raspberries is an easy drinking canned version of our big, bold 22 oz. bottle of Brainless® Raspberries, crafted especially for those who seek bright, fresh, and real raspberry flavors in a convenient size. We brew exclusively with natural raspberry puree, which give this beer its unique pink color as well as hints of raspberry bubble-gum, sweet fruit jam, and a pleasant dryness that makes this beer perfect for easy going affairs, indoors or out.

Maui Brewing Co. Pineapple Mana Wheat – An unfiltered, freshly handcrafted American-style Wheat infused with Maui Gold Pineapple. Our crisp and refreshing wheat ale is lightly hopped to allow the fruity sweetness of the pineapple to shine. The yeast stays in suspension making the ale traditionally cloudy.

Founder’s Blushing Monk – Blushing Monk is brewed with a ridiculous amount of raspberries and with a Belgian yeast strain that keeps our head cellar operator from sleeping for a week. It pours a stunning deep berry red and, at 9.2% ABV, has a surprising kick. The perfect dessert beer, it can be enjoyed on its own or paired with fresh cheeses, fruit, cakes and more.

Lindeman’s Raspberry Lambic– The appearance of this exceptional beer is matched only by its taste! To make our Framboise, we add raspberry juice to our lambic. That gives it a delicate fruity aroma and a beautiful dark pink color. Framboise is served as an aperitif, but I also use it in cooking. And when I don’t finish the bottle in my preparations, I finish it in my glass.

Lindeman’s Peach Lambic– As its name suggests, Pecheresse is a lambic beer enriched with peach juice. And this fruit lambic is a real peach! It is nice to drink at any time of day. Or on a sunny patio. Personally, I enjoy it with my girlfriends. And what we talk about is of no concern to you.

Coconut Porter Maui Brewing Co.

Our CoCoNut PorTeR is a fresh handcrafted robust Porter brewed with six varieties of malted barley, hops and hand-toasted coconut. It begins with a malty-toasted coconut aroma followed by a rich, silky feel with tastes of dark malt, chocolate and hints of coffee. It then finishes with flavors of toasted coconut and hoppy spice to balance the finish.

Early Riser Coffee Porter Boulevard Brewing Co.

At 5.2 ABV and 28 IBU, Early Riser Coffee Porter features a blend of pale, caramel and chocolate malts with just a touch of wheat to form a round, smooth bodied beer with notes of coffee and chocolate that elevate rather than overpowering the beautiful coffee supplied by our friend Vincent. Hopping with Magnum and Bravo is limited to the beginning of the boil to provide just enough bitterness to balance out the sweetness of the malt. The coffee is, as it should be, the star of the beer as it shines in the flavor and aroma.

Victory at Sea Ballast Point Brewing Co.

Our Victory at Sea Imperial Porter is a bold, smooth brew with just the right amount of sweetness. We infused this robust porter with whole vanilla beans and San Diego’s own Caffe Calabria coffee beans. The subtle roasted notes and minimal acidity of the cold brewed coffee, balances perfectly with the sweet caramel undertones of the malt, creating a winning combination for your palate. 96 points Beer Advocate

Black Marlin Porter Ballast Point Brewing Co.

Our Black Marlin Porter stands out in a town known primarily for its IPA’s. We craft it from a unique blend of roasted and crystallized malts that give it a smooth, chocolaty, caramel profile. Then toss in a healthy dose of American hops to serve up full-bodied flavor worthy of its San Diego roots. 96 Points Beer Advocate

Homework Series Robust Porter Ballast Point Brewing Co.

Dark black with ruby red highlights, this Robust Porter is rich and complex. A blend of UK malts, chocolate rye and Belgian candi sugar provide a sweet chocolate, yet rich earthy quality. Malt forward with an aroma full of roasted malts, toffee and dark fruit, this National Homebrew Competition medal-winner is a great dessert beer or to pair with hearty foods.

Uncle Lumpy’s Vanilla Porter By Woodstock Inn & Brewery

This dark full-bodied porter with black patent and chocolate malts shining through, features a light vanilla aroma and finish. Uncle Lumpy’s Vanilla Porter is the first in the BBC Line up of beers brewed in collaboration with Woodstock Inn & Brewery.

Stone Smoked Porter

When first released, our smoky version of a traditional English porter was ahead of its time. Today, it’s a highly regarded staple among craft beer fans and our go-to food complement, pairing effortlessly with all kinds of cuisine, from peanut butter and banana sandwiches to braised pork belly and apple pie. This worldly libation is dark, smooth and complex, with chocolate and coffee flavors suffused with subtle smokiness from the addition of peat-smoked malt. 90 Points Beer Advocate

Saisons and Farmhouse Ales

Saisons are sturdy farmhouse ale that was traditionally brewed in the winter, to be consumed throughout the summer months. Not so long ago it was close to being an endangered style, but over recent years there’s been a massive revival; especially in the US.

This is a very complex style; many are very fruity in the aroma and flavor. Look for earthy yeast tones, mild to moderate tartness. Lots of spice and with a medium bitterness. They tend to be semi-dry with many only having touch of sweetness.

Two Roads Worker’s Comp. Saison

A traditional farmhouse ale made with a very expressive yeast strain that contributes an array of tropical fruit, spice flavors and aromatics. Brewed with a variety of harvest grains including barley, wheat, oats and rye as was likely the case with farmhouse brewers of yore. The result is a complex, refreshing and distinctive example of this esoteric style. Intensely fruity (passion fruit, pineapple, mango, lychee), slightly spicy (clove, white pepper)

Cambridge Brewing Company Sgt. Pepper (96 points BA)

Farmhouse Ale with Peppercorns

First brewed in celebration of our 20th Anniversary, and #23 is coming up soon – May 12, 2012! It was April Fool’s Day, 1989, when Phil “Brewdaddy” Bannatyne first opened the doors to what would become one of the preeminent breweries in the country.

Sgt. Pepper has been brewed with Pilsner, CaraVienne, and Rye malts, plus Magnum and Spalter hops. But the driving force behind this beer is the contribution from whole Black, Green, White, and Pink peppercorns. Added to the brewkettle, these four fab peppercorns harmonize with spicy hops while the malted rye and our Belgian yeast hold down the backbeat.

Boulevard Brewing Co. Collaberation No. 4 Saison

To pay tribute to our new familial ties, brewmasters Steven Pauwels and Phil Leinhart chose to create a Saison, the traditional Belgian farmhouse ale. They began by brewing two separate batches of beer, both at Boulevard Brewing Company, each with a grain bill of pale malt, oats, rye, corn, and wheat, subtly spiced with coriander, grains of paradise, and dried peels of lemons and oranges. Perle was used as a bittering hop with Safir and Saaz added for aroma. Each of the two batches was fermented with the unique house yeast from our respective breweries. The batches were then blended post-fermentation, allowing both of the distinctive yeast signatures to manifest in the finished beer. The result is crisp and bready, with a bracing hoppiness and a hint of spice lingering in the background. Join us in raising a glass to family.

Brewery Ommegang Hennepin (95 points BA)

This style is a farmhouse ale, and is considered to be in the domain of the Belgian Saisons. Hennepin is a delicious brew for all seasons, it is spicy and refreshing.

A moderately hoppy, farmhouse-style ale with a champagne-like effervescence, Hennepin has a crisp start followed by malt sweetness balanced with a firm bitterness. Hennepin has a bounty of great flavors: ginger, spice, orange and toasted grain. Pouring a bright golden color with a spicy-sweet balance of orange peel, sweet malt, hops and ginger, Hennepin makes way for a dry finish with a slight bite of ginger.

Foolproof La Ferme Urbane

La Ferme Urbaine (LFU) is our unique take on a farmhouse ale. Influenced by the Belgian saison style, LFU features a complex blend of German hops, pilsner and pale malts, wheat, rye, oats, and spelt. The beer pours a hazy straw color and delivers a spicy, dry finish. So raise a glass and enjoy!

Dogfish Head Noble Rot

This saison-esque science project gets complexity and fermentable sugars from two unique wine grapes sourced with our friends at Alexandria Nicole Cellars in Prosser, Wash.

The first addition is unfermented juice, known as must, from Viognier grapes that have been infected with a benevolent fungus called botrytis. This noble rot reduces the water content in the grapes while magnifying their sweetness and complexity. The second is pinot gris must intensified by a process called dropping fruit, where large clusters of grapes are clipped to amplify the quality of those left behind.

“This is the absolute closest to equal meshing of the wine world and the beer world thats ever been done commercially,” says Dogfish’s Sam Calagione. Noble Rot is brewed with pils and wheat malts and fermented with a distinct Belgian yeast strain. It has a spicy white wine body and a dry, tart finish.

Two Roads Worker’s Stomp

We have taken our Workers Comp saison and “stomped” all over it. Using a variant of our classic saison recipe and aging it in white wine barrels, this beer is the newest in our “Road Less Traveled” series. Majorly fruity and spicy with a hint of dry white wine notes.

Allagash Interlude (Farmhouse Ale aged in Wine Barrels) (94 points BA)

Two yeast strains were used to create this unique 9.5% ABV Belgian style ale. The first, a Belgian farmhouse yeast, establishes the flavor foundations of a classic Belgian-style ale. The second, a house strain of Brettanomyces yeast, brings it to the next level contributing an intriguing myriad of flavors including pear, apricot, graham cracker, and bread crust. Finally, a portion of the Interlude is aged in red wine barrels, which impart a distinctive vinous plum character and a drying, almost tannic finish.

Boulevard Tank 7 (95 points BA)

Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment that’s just a bit persnickety. Here at Boulevard we have fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were experimenting with variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a big surge of fruity aromatics and grapefruit-hoppy notes, the flavor of this complex, straw-colored ale tapers off to a peppery, dry finish.

Boulevard Spring Belle

Spring Belle Saison marries the crisp, spicy flavor of a traditional farmhouse saison, with its citrusy hop notes, to the fresh floral aromas of chamomile, rose petals, and elderflower. Late hopping with Calypso and Lemon Drop rounds out this drinkable spring bouquet.
